Tasks Reflections
Prototyping the Goal Moving Device
  • Brad, Braden, Akhila, Morgan and Trevor worked on trying to design and build an effective way to pick up the goals and move them around.
  • Trevor created two designs for potential rolling goal possessors. These included a very small linear slide and a small lever both controlled by servos. He also discussed another possible design for a potential rolling goal possessor. His new idea used a ramp and a platform to hold the rolling goals which would also include points for getting a rolling goal off of the ground.
  • We figured out that the ramp would not work but that two pegs on the end of the robot ended up working well.
  • We settled on trying to use two pegs to move around the goals.
Working on Linear Slide in SolidWorks
  • Justin, Josh and Andrew worked on getting custom parts for the linear slide so it can be moved more easily.
  • Josh chose to sit at his computer waiting for Andrew the mentor to help him with Solidworks, which just may be the most complicated thing in the world!
Shooter Mechanism
  • Laura and Akhila worked on prototyping the ball shooter that they had been working on for the past few meetings. The design includes a wheel powered by a motor, which will work to shoot the ball through a tube.
  • We started with making a frame to hold the wheel and motor, so it was more reliable, and safer, than just holding it in our hands.
  • Then we cut a slit out of the PVC pipe that the wheel would fit in.
  • Amal, Nick, and Laura also worked on the tube cutting to make the motor fit inside the tube.
  • We accidentally put the wheel at the wrong height and had to redo a lot of work. We learned the important lesson of measuring before building.
  • We finally got a chance to shoot the ball. It definitely seemed to be fast enough to make it into the tallest goal. It was really cool and exciting to watch!
