Team 1640 New 2012 Structure

In the post-season of 2011, Team 1640 developed a new team structure to facilitate student-led design and build efforts.

Development

This process started on 23-July-2011 on the drive back from IRI with Julie Christopher, Clem McKown, and Siri Maley (and Jillian). (The best discussions always happen in these sorts of situations--the drive back from IRI can be one of our most productive times of the year.)

The new structure underwent modifications and soon incorporated the Scrum methodology before it was introduced and further modified based on student and mentor input in August of 2011.

The team includes the Field Coaches, Drivers and Operators, Human Players, Scouting Lead, Match Photographers and Videographers, and other skilled observers. Tasks include driver training, preparation and communication, scouting integration, and strategy and tactics development.

Scouting: responsible for all pre-competition, pit, and match scouting. Includes Scouting Lead, Match Scouts, Pit Scouts, Match Photographers & Videographers, and other skilled observers.

Is not responsible for engineering-based awards, supervised by the Integration Team but may be a joint effort between any Product Teams as well as the Awards, Animation and Media teams, among others.

Flex: responsible for a several of the smaller tasks that do not take the majority of build season. These include field, bumper and crate construction, as well as other as-needed tasks. This is a convenient team for members who cannot commit to high or regular attendance during build season, as there will always be something to do but it does not require high continuity.
