Tasks Reflections
Building the Intake
  • Trevor and Brad built the intake which took quite a few modifications but they got through it for the most part. They have very little work to do to finish it and they will do just that next meeting.
Milling 80-20
  • Justin, Josh, and Andrew worked on milling 80-20 pieces to 14in. Exactly.
  • Josh, Justin and Andrew painstakingly milled 6 pieces of 80-20 to 14in on the dot through using 2 different end mills(4 flute and 2 flute). To make the ends of the 80-20 nice and pretty, they used the 4 flute. We used the 2 flute to make slightly larger cuts. we went back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and so on to cut the 80-20 nearly perfectly.
Working on the Ball Pickup
  • Brad, Braden, Trevor, Morgan, and Amal worked on designing and building a way to integrate Trevor's pickup method onto the robot, so as to scoop up the balls for our scoring method.
Working on the Drum Shooter Prototype"
  • CJ, Morgan, Laura, Braden and Mentor Gary started working on building a prototype for the drum shooter that would be both efficient and quick.
  • The mechanism to scoop the game device would be like hamster wheel attached with a moving motor or servo.
  • Before they went to work they met with Head Mentor Clem and discussed what the prototype would look like and what materials to use for it.
  • In the Workshop Laura and Mentor Gary used a band saw to cut some foam pieces and then CJ and Morgan refined them by hand to circular pieces for the Hamster wheel scoop.
  • Then they cut more circular pieces but out of poly carbonate. Since this was a little harder to do by hand, we used the band saw for the refinement too. It was Laura's first time cutting a curve, so it was fun to learn.
  • In the end, they made the beginning of a prototype for the drum shooter. They will still need to build a frame, add a motor, add surgical tubing/spring, and test some shooting! Sadly, they ran out of time, so they will continue this next meeting.
