Tasks Reflections
Cutting/Bending Plastic
  • Laura worked on creating the plastic for the goal guide and angled intake.
  • With the use of drawings created in solid works, she was able to transfer the measurements onto some polypropylene. She used a caliper to be very exact, which was pretty time consuming.
  • After cutting it on the band saw, she looked for the piece of wood cut to 108 degrees that was used to form the previous goal guide. It was no where to be found, so she had to make another. This wood would hold the goal guide at the correct angle after the piece was heated using the bend table.
  • After making that piece of wood, Laura decided to put it in the freezer so the wood would be extra cold. This way, it would cool down the piece faster. Sadly, the freezer was broken and wasn't any cooler.
  • After making the goal guide, Laura realized it was not the right angle. She modified the wood, and reheated/bent the piece.
  • Now the goal guide was the right angle, and Laura moved onto the angled intake.
  • All went well on the first, but the second was left on the bend table for slightly too long. It is now formed correctly, but it doesn't look as pretty as the first.
  • These pieces will be bolted to the chassis next meeting.
  • Trevor helped cut and mount plastic pieces. He also helped build the Tetrix frame on the robot.
Plastic to mount electronics
  • Akhila worked on mounting electronics.
  • She, at first, cut a 12*13.5 polycarbonate panel that would attact onto the linear slide.
  • After seeing that this would interfere with the slide, she made two plastic panels, one of which would house the Samantha and a motor controller, and the other of which would house a servo controller and a motor controller.
  • She finished cutting all the plastic and drilling all the holes for the electronics.
  • It was quite time consuming, because everything had to be laid out exactly right.
  • Though it was tedious, Akhila got to practice using the bandsaw and the drill press, both of which are relatively new to her!
Finishing Brass Pulleys
  • Josh helped Mr. Dr. Professor Gary le Plumber solder the remaining brass plates by grabbing the freshly soldered pieces and kindly escorted the pieces into the bathroom and under the faucet to cool down.
  • Despite this only being his second time soldering, Josh proved to be quite good at it.
  • He really enjoyed soldering!
  • Maybe he'll consider welding next year!
What Nick did
  • Nick worked on setting up autonomous for each of the centerpiece positions
Mill Work
  • Amal and Justin were working on the mill and were milling and cutting tetrix parts for the robot.
  • Justin has been milling almost constantly since the season started, and is really excited for the robot to almost be done!
