Tasks Reflections
Cutting/Bending Plastic
  • Laura worked on creating the plastic for the goal guide and angled intake.
  • With the use of drawings created in solid works, she was able to transfer the measurements onto some polypropylene. She used a caliper to be very exact, which was pretty time consuming.
  • After cutting it on the band saw, she looked for the piece of wood cut to 108 degrees that was used to form the previous goal guide. It was no where to be found, so she had to make another. This wood would hold the goal guide at the correct angle after the piece was heated using the bend table.
  • After making that piece of wood, Laura decided to put it in the freezer so the wood would be extra cold. This way, it would cool down the piece faster. Sadly, the freezer was broken and wasn't any cooler.
  • After making the goal guide, Laura realized it was not the right angle. She modified the wood, and reheated/bent the piece.
  • Now the goal guide was the right angle, and Laura moved onto the angled intake.
  • All went well on the first, but the second was left on the bend table for slightly too long. It is now formed correctly, but it doesn't look as pretty as the first.
  • These pieces will be bolted to the chassis next meeting.
